MANAWANUI RESEARCH CENTRE

Indigienous Nursery and Taonga Sanctuary

He Puukenga Wai, He Oranga Taangata

A collaborative response

A collaborative response to critical freshwater fisheries challenges, enacting the kaitiakitanga responsibility of the iwi of Ngaati Koroki Kahukura to enhance and restore the mauri of waterways and puna. We recognise that our intent to share and gather new knowledge is central to a number of our neighbouring iwi, and we have established partnerships to share with those iwi who have similar interests in Tuna, Koura, Puna and Wetland Restoration.

Manawanui Research Centre will collaborate through Waananga with other iwi in freshwater fisheries experiences, bringing together kaumaatua, whaanau and rangatahi to speak to the space. The wānanga will be further supported by our Science Advisor and partners to provide powerful and extensive connections to transformative practice.

This is intended to be a collaborative approach/space that will encourage Indigenous researchers, practitioners and experts who are strongly connected to freshwater Tuna, Koura, Puna and Wetland Restoration experiences to support the planning of key dissemination and outputs.
